⚡️🇮🇷💧 The Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian has warned that Iran is «on the brink of a disastrous water crisis» and that, without a drastic reduction in consumption, the dams that supply Tehran could be drained by September.
🔻 Pezeshkian denounced the excessive exploitation of resources, uncontrolled urban development, and political inertia, defining «palliative» the attempts to contain consumption with holidays: «This is not how you face a real crisis».
🔻 The wave of extreme heat, with peaks over 50°C in more provinces, has exacerbated the crisis. Some reservoirs have fallen below 14% and in many urban areas, water is lacking for over 12 hours a day. The government has initiated talks with Turkmenistan and Afghanistan for possible emergency supplies.
