⚡️🇪🇺🛂The EU Council has definitively approved the “Return Regulation,” which introduces common rules for the repatriation of third‑country citizens without residence rights in the Union.
🔻 The regulation introduces a European order of repatriation, expands detention options for those considered a “security risk,” and allows states to transfer people subject to repatriation to “return hubs” located in non‑EU countries.
🔻 The hubs will require agreements with countries that respect international law and the principle of non‑refoulement; unaccompanied minors will be excluded.
🔻 The provisions on “return hubs,” on the assessment of minors’ age, and on cooperation with third countries will apply from the regulation’s entry into force; other rules requiring preparatory measures will come into effect after 12 months.
